There is nothing like the feeling you get from running a white water river. It is an exhilarating pastime that can be done very safely once you acquire the skill taught on this instructional trip.
The Nith River is a Grand River tributary perfect place to learn whitewater on. The Nith starts fairly easy with just a 4 ft./mile elevation drop (0.8m/km) & ends in a wild rush with a 20 ft./mile elevation drop. And since the Nith is a Southern Ontario river with a gravel bottom instead of a bolder strewn Northern Canadian Shield river, the rapids are just caused by the elevation drop. You don't have to worry about colliding with a bolder in the river.
The Nith's easier start allows you to learn & practise whitewater techniques with your experienced instructor safely & easily. Over the course of the trip the elevation drop increases and you get to practise on small rapids. This course will also teach you to read the river, one of the most important skills to have under your belt when tackling fast water.
The ratio of instructor to customers are kept low, 1:5, to ensure each participant gets proper instruction. As you approach rapids, the instructor will stop to discuss group options. Hearty Lunch Included!
Cost $109.95 /person. * includes: instruction, shuttle service, lunch & rental of all equipment (boat, paddle, PFD, wetsuit, neoprene gloves, dry bags)
