An introductory course where you learn as you paddle. The course begins on the calm waters of Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area just north of Paris. A pretty lake surrounded by towering cedars, lily pad marshes & mythically large turtles. It is a perfect spot to get accustomed to different paddling techniques without a river current. Your instructor will teach safety and teach you all the basic steering strokes. When you feel comfortable we shuttle to the Grand River to paddle down a gentle section of the River with your instructor coaching. This is a very scenic section that is rich in history. You’ll learn to read the current & your instructor will show you how to navigate the river. You get the chance to put into practise what you learned in the morning session with our instructor, who will show you how to read the river currents & maneuver around rocks before you’re on top of them. You will learn how to maneuver a canoe using such techniques as the "J" stroke and the "C" stroke, as well as pivoting using the draw & pry strokes. When done this course, you will be able to paddle with confidence on lakes & gentle rivers. It may also pique your interest in the more daring fast water course! Included
