ORCKA Canoe

ORCKA Canoe Certification

just an hour from Toronto Ontario Canada

Grand Experiences runs ORCKA Flatwater Canoeing, Lakewater and Basic Canoe Instructor Courses.

We have a number of Experienced Instructors on staff and have run ORCKA courses since 1999.  Along with courses for individuals (see schedule below) we also run courses for groups on demand and have trained thousands of people in Scouts, Girl Guides, Schools, Tim Hortons Camps, Canadian Armed Forces, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, etc.

While we operate a monthly course at Pinehurst (Lake) Conservation Area, with multiple instructors and a large mobile fleet, we will run a course on request for groups anywhere in Southern Ontario.

Flatwater Level 1  A - D

Grand Experience’s instructors are certified by ORCKA (Ontario Recreational Canoe & Kayak Association) to teach and certify all four sections in Flatwater Canoeing - A,B,C (tandem skills) & D (solo skills).

The course teaches craft knowledge & history, safety & rescue, portaging & transporting and paddling skills for moving a canoe: forward/reverse, laterals, stops, circles and turns, J-strokes, etc.

Sections A & B are taught in one full day (approx. 8 hours). Sections C & D level are taught on a 2nd day. While we offer A/B and C/D on consecutive days (see schedule) you can take A/B on one weekend and C/D on a different weekend.  Groups of 5 or more can schedule a course at any time.

This ORCA course starts at 9:30am on designated weekends at Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area.

For those doing both days and desiring to stay overnight in the area, we can arrange overnight accommodations.  Camping is available at Pinehurst as individual sites or as part of a group campsite with other canoeing students.
