The objective is to
experience wilderness guiding and canoe tripping skills.
This is "hands-on", a real taste of the determination and
skills required in the outdoors Lodgings are indoors or
camping. with full kitchen facilities.
The Nith River in conjunction with a forested
education-center, is the backdrop. The class is broken into
four groups. Over the two days, the groups rotate through
the following programs (3 hours in length)
Canoe Trip: As they move down the river . review the basic
strokes of Level 1 ORCA, experience paddling both bow &
stern positions, discuss potential dangers and how to
recover, learn how to read the water and portage your canoe.
Forestry Hike: Teaching of trees, edible & medicinal plants,
birds and wildlife identification. learn ways to remember.
learn how to read the forest and soils.learn respect for the
land.
Kayak Run: The Nith is an excellent river to experience the
kayak. It starts off gentle, giving lots of time for
instruction and getting comfortable. It ends with a fun
"flume ride". A perfect place to practice what you've
learned. a kayak playground!
Tripper Class: Discover how to do a 5 day wilderness trip,
learn how to plan meals, find out about the equipment
needed, know the "criticals" of setting up camp, learn how
to fill your pack and load the canoe, design an emergency
bag and canoe tripping list. learn to portage everything in
one move!

Fireside Time: An evening which will include
people-dynamics. interactive group-imagination. laughter and
trust. things to tighten up comradeship. and things to
stretch the mind.
This entire package includes canoe and kayak equipment,
shuttles, meals & snacks. Participants need to bring their
own ding, toiletries and clothes. |
