Grand Experiences has an excellent safety record. We are going into our eighth season and last year did 3,500 trips for 8,500 people. In total we have done trips for over 32,000 people and have had no accidents or injuries requiring medical care.
- Our trips include numerous families, schools, guides/scouts, universities, corporate and community groups of up to 150 people in size.
- We put safety first and attribute our success to the following efforts:
- Our staff are well trained and experienced.
- We supply certified lifeguards on the trip if needed.
- We work closely with the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) on river conditions. The Grand & Nith Rivers have real time flow rate and temperature monitoring so we accurately know the river conditions before a trip. \
- We monitor weather conditions with Intellecast
- Radar Monitoring Systems to know accurately what type of weather to expect.
- If the river or weather situation is unsafe, we will postpone a trip until conditions are favourable.
- Before a trip we do safety & skills orientations. Upon request we also travel to schools to do offsite orientations.
- No one goes on a trip if we feel an unsafe situation exists.
- We provide all safety gear including CSA approved PFDs, marine safety kits (floating rope, whistle, bailer), helmets and use top quality paddling equipment which is regularly inspected.
- We do not permit horseplay on water trips.
- Our canoes are roto-molded polylaminate 16ft Prospector style canoes. They are the toughest boats on the market, virtually impossible to puncture and the Prospector is regarded as the best handling canoe.
- Our kayaks are high volume, exceptionally stable,,, thus easy to handle.
- We will provide a list of acceptable clothing/gear for the trips and take any precautions if temperatures are low.
- We are also one of the few Grand River canoe outfitting companies that are fully insured on land and water.
