The moment you enter Big Creek you know these waters are different. This little explored river in Southern Ontario is narrow with a moving current. A lush green canopy cascades down … and overhead are pieces of broken sky. The river is two meters deep and 15 meters wide. It is the Canadian Amazon… a river of trees… you paddle under them… wind around… or sometimes crawl over. There is a wildness here that is not found elsewhere. Insect repellant is needed. This adventure is worth doing. As we say… “ It is the only trip where emptying your canoe is dumping the leaves out instead!”
To do this paddle with enjoyment… the canoe is the best choice. The canoeist need to be skilled at steering because of the sharp turns that suddenly occur.
Because of Big Creek’s uniqueness, Grand Experiences does not encourage high volumes of canoe traffic on this river. We offer two types of guided trips during selected time periods. One is a 4-5 hour day trip and the other is a two-day overnight camping trip.
