This self-guided trip with maps supplied is our best two day/overnight canoe trip.Meet at Paris the first day and shuttle up on the Seneca Run @ 9:30am or 11:30am.
Get out at the Paris dam and drive 15 minutes to your campsite. The next day we shuttle you at 9am or 11am from your campsite. You then paddle the Cayuga Run back to your campsite/vehicle.
The Seneca Run is is an excellent novice kayak or canoe route on the Grand River in Southern Ontario. The average water depth is about 1 meter. It is a 5-hour easy paddling trip with no portages… starting in Cambridge. The river meanders through a wide valley flowing around a series of islands. A map is provided to show the best channels. This is also small mouth bass territory and fishing can be quite good. Past the village of Glen Morris the banks rise up with the towering Carolinian Forest… the water flows swifter here…but still a very enjoyable paddle through long pools and short swifts. The abundance of wildlife varies with the season and time of day. The trip finishes above the scenic dam overlooking the quaint town of Paris.
Then drive to Brant Conservation Area to camp with your tent or trailer. The Conservation Area has a huge pool, showers, toilets and biking trails. The next day we shuttle you back to Paris to do a return trip on the Cayuga Run.
This 3-hour Cayuga Run starts off at our riverside landing in Paris. The paddle starts with some gentle current going into one hundred meters of choppy water… then on it goes. This river section is a “barb-less catch and release” zone with excellent small-mouth bass populations… plus spring and fall steelhead. But the biggest attraction is 5km the kayak playground called the “BLOOP”. This is a splashing 2-foot drop with standing waves for kayaks to practice on… or simply an adrenalin rush for the canoeist shooting through. For those seeking a more docile ride this “Bloop” can be avoided by paddling to the left of the island. Downstream is laid-back padding with gentle swifts and “grand” scenery. Your final destination is our riverside campsites at the Brant Conservation Park where your vehicle is parked.
