This is a self-guided paddle on the Seneca Run… park your boat and walk to the B&B… spend the night… then paddle the Cayuga Run the next day to the Brant Conservation Area.
The Seneca Run is an excellent novice kayak or canoe route on the Grand River in Southern Ontario. The average water depth is about 1 meter. It is a 4-hour easy paddling trip with no portages… starting in Cambridge. The river meanders through a wide valley flowing around a series of islands. A map is provided to show the best channels. This is also small mouth bass territory and fishing can be quite good. Past the village of Glen Morris the banks rise up with the towering Carolinian Forest… the water flows swifter here…but still a very enjoyable paddle through long pools and short swifts. The abundance of wildlife varies with the season and time of day. The trip finishes at the B&B... with your vehicle parked there.
Launch your canoe the next day and paddle into the Cayuga Run. This 4-hour paddle starts above the Paris Dam with a 100M portage. Then paddle some gentle current going into one hundred meters of choppy water… then on it goes. This river section is a “barb-less catch and release” zone with excellent small-mouth bass populations… plus spring and fall steelhead. But the biggest attraction is 5km the kayak playground called the “BLOOP”. This is a splashing 2-foot drop with standing waves for kayaks to practice on… or simply an adrenalin rush for the canoeist shooting through. For those seeking a more docile ride this “Bloop” can be avoided by paddling to the left of the island. Downstream is laid-back padding with gentle swifts and “grand” scenery. Your final destination is our riverside campsites at the Brant Conservation Park where your vehicle is waiting.
Price: $119 each plus tax. Includes canoe, paddle & pfd, shuttle ride, car shuttle, maps, B&B with breakfast.
If choosing to kayak for the 2 days… $149 per person plus tax.
