Guided Walks
Trail of the Black Walnut

The hike is along rolling terrain which is fairly gentle.  Not a strenuous hike but very picturesque and interesting.

This two-hour walk starts out along the heights overlooking the Grand River through the Carolinian Forest. From there it proceeds down into the gentle river-flat pastures along the shoreline of the Grand.

Learn about the identification of fauna and trees …edible plants …birds, fish and wildlife of the valley…soils and springs… discover the Carolinian Forest.

Gain insight into the history of the valley… from the destruction of the "Neutral Confederacy"… to the journals of Mary Stitts and the nomadic Mississauga's …then the permanent arrival of the Iroquois… the homesteading efforts of Major Borrowes… the 18th century discovery of gypsum.

Your guide, is a forester and canoeist who grew up in the valley. His humor and sense of story telling… along with techniques of teaching …will create an enjoyable and entertaining afternoon.
