A two day/two night guided "getaway-paddle" on the Grand River that journeys to a 17th century Iroquoian village. It starts with a soothing hot tub/lodge package and end with an all-inclusive camping package.
Your adventure starts at the Brant Park Inn with a casual evening dining in the Kirby Room... a hot tub & swim... and a relaxing night's sleep.
Day one is the guided Cayuga Run which is the historical route of the valley. It starts at our store front dock on the Grand River. The first leg of the paddle drifts into the famous artist snapshot of Paris... then visit the largest black walnut tree in Canada... see natural conglomerate rock... drink from cool springs... run the splashing "bloop" ... visit a mine from the 1830''s... hike to the Lookout on the Black Walnut Trail... hear the history of the forgotten Neutral Tribe... pass the largest blue-heron rookery... visit the coldest creek in Southern Ontario... picnic on Sarah's Island... life jacket float the Big "V" ... see the remains of an 1800 corduroy road& paddle the quiet stillness... see a red-tail hawk nest and the home of a bank beaver... then paddle to your final destination... our riverside campsites at the Brant Conservation Area. (4-5hour hike/paddle).
Your riverside campsite has everything setup for you... tents, air beds, lanterns, cooking utensils, gas barbeque, firewood, iced cooler with supper & breakfast, running water and showers nearby. Enjoy a quiet evening paddling or bass fishing right off your site.
The next morning we paddle the Highway of the Iroquois to the 17th century longhouse Kanata Village. We launch our canoes from our Brant Conservation campsites, paddle past Brant's Ford, where the famous Mohawk Ambassador Joseph Brant led the Iroquois across the Grand River. There is one 50 yard portage. This is a section of the rare osprey and blue herons... the towering Canadian wild hemp crowds the shore... glide behind the home of Alexander Graham Bell... enter the deep oxbow... learn above the steamship history of the Grand... get out at Ontario's first river generated power dam... then hike a mile along the old steamer canal... learn edible plants and fauna... arrive at Kanata Interpretation Center for an Iroquois welcome ceremony and tour.
